STUMPED

Looking back to my younger years, obedience was one of those words that would become obsolete at age 18. Apparently I was hyper-focused on freedom…. So, What is obedience, anyway?

Definition of obedience in English:
noun  1.  Compliance with an order, request, or law or submission to another’s authority:
children were taught to show their parents obedience;
obedience to moral standards

Whether or not you are Christian, I am sure there are moral standards in which you are expected to ahear to. Today, I am ignited by the scripture in James (a book of the Bible that tells it how it is!)

First, I’ll start by explaining what started this journey of conviction:  a verse in Proverbs telling me not to be lazy if I expect good results.

Of course, I prayed before starting my devotion this morning….so, am I lazy? No! Not always, anyway…

I think God is pushing me more towards the obedience I am lacking.  It begins with grumbling about how this or that just won’t change. Then, it becomes, “oh, why does this [add your own reoccurring nightmare] keep happening?!”

This is where I decided to revisit the book of James. James (Jusus’ half brother who became an apostle) is a man who wrote strait truth. No fluff.
When We feel “stumped” and like we don’t know what to do, we need to ask God!  Not only ask Him, but ask Him for His Wisdom with confidence (faith.)

I found this quote in my devotional reading this morning- fits nicely with my current convition:

James states another extremely important key to unlocking the “stumped” door:
Add life to the mix and these measures can be quite challenging.

Obedience to God’s instruction, asking for wisdom and taking action.  This all takes effort on our parts. Period. No sitting back in the fluffy chair, waiting for life to adjust to your position of comfort…Darn.

Question:  Are you stumped? If so, what are you going to do to get “un-stumped” today?

My prayer is for a willing heart of obedience and the faith in God to take action through His wisdom. In Jesus’ Precious Name, Amen

Praise God for his unending love, mercy and grace!!!

Have a Blessed Day!

  1. Fascinating translation of Proverbs 13:4 – sadly loads of us Christians can sometimes lose the connection between work and results. This puts the reality front and centre – thanks for sharing.
