BUILDING WITH CONFIDENCE

“I wonder if we’re not all a lot better for each other than we previously thought. . . .I wonder how many people are withholding the love they could provide because they secretly believe they have fatal flaws.” —Donald Miller, Scary Close

I found this quote in an article about mentorship and the need to boost our understanding of the importance of mentorship.  (Godsizeddreams.com)
Art and the freedom of expression- new technology- updated wisdom.

These are all beautiful advancements, however, in the race to press forward I have this sense that we are forgetting our beginnings. Who created these platforms for us to lead from? How were these original foundation crafted?

Don’t we need mentors to teach us where we come from and advise us on how to move ahead?

Once established, shouldn’t we look to those who are younger and offer our “wisdom” as well?

This reminds me of a passage I’ve know since I was a young girl:

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law. (‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭24-29‬ NLT)

We need mentors. We need to become mentors. Otherwise, we are merely building upon a foundation of sand.

Today, let’s consider who our mentors are and if we don’t have any, who might become a mentor for you.  If you are “seasoned”, consider who you are mentoring, and if you find you are drawing a blank, think about  who you might be able to start that conversation with.

If you’re like me, it goes both ways: I need mentors and I need to be open to mentoring.

I urge you to go forward with confidence, not in confidence, to find your mentors and to be a mentor. You can find this confidence in prayer.

Father, Thank you for giving us mentors and support! My prayer is for you to give us the confidence to seek mentors that you have chosen and find those you have designed to help us in this world. I pray for the confidence and wisdom to also mentor those who You send to us.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
