Friday was a reminder to my stubborn soul of the importance of connecting with God first thing in the morning. Praying to Him for the day ahead…instead, I felt it would be a great idea to fix my printers and prepare a package for mailing FIRST. Just sayin’, my blonde hair was confirming the stereotype for me that day! It took me almost 3 hours of writing and praying, after I dropped the kiddos off at school, to finally feel centered in God!
The bible has great instruction! 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 tells us to, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
David writes, in Psalm 27:4, “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple.”
Our pastor is finishing up a great series at our church: My Own Worst Enemy…any guesses on who that might be? The answer stares right back at us in the mirror, assuming we can even look in the mirror… There have been many days this past summer where I am sure I didn’t make eye contact with myself. Sad but true.
I’d like to share a little about what spoke to my heart during the sermon of this series; Start, Spend & End your day with God.
1. Start in prayer:
Lord, I pray my heart is a heart of God today. Be with me everywhere I go, let my hands and feet lead me where You want me to go and to do what You want me to do. Let my eyes be pure. Let them see what I need to see though You, Lord. Let my mouth speak from Your love, let my words bring life, not criticism. Holy Spirit, guide me! (Ephesians 4:29, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”)
2. Spend your day with God:
Paul tells us in Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
Lord, help me today, to do everything in Your Name. Please open my heart so I am aware of what I watch and what I listen to and may it be pleasing to You. I give my children and my marriage to You today and pray for Your Grace to flow through me, through my words, onto my husband and children. Help me, also, to replace my worry with prayer! Thank you Lord for blessing me so greatly with a relationship with you and the choice to allow You to lead my every thought and action! Please forgive me for the times when I follow my own will, Lord.
3. End your day with Him:
This is where we can confess our sin, Thank Him and Talk to Him (as a friend talks to a friend.)
This also the time, once our children are in bed, I ask God to speak to me and Guide me through His word. I pray for answers and look to Him through the Bible for direction. When the lights are out, a lay and talk to God about my worries, I pray for people and situations and I thank Him and tell Him I Love Him. that is what helps me go to sleep with a peaceful happy heart!
So, as we go about our day, Lord please be with us, strengthen our hearts, and guide our actions towards You.
In Jesus’ Name,
